Bulletin for the First Sunday in Advent, December 3, 2023

WORSHIP HELPERS: Reader – Jackson Shelmadine Lay Assistant – Luayne Weisgerber
FELLOWSHIP– Rhonda Hashman

Stir up your power, and come! Isaiah wants God to rip the heavens open. Crying out for an apparently
distant, angry God to show up, to save, to restore. When we hear Jesus describing the coming of the Son
of Man with stars falling from heaven, it can sound dire and horrible, not like anything we would ever
hope for. But when we really look at the suffering of people God loves, we can share the hope that God
would tear open the heavens and come.
(*) Please stand as you are able
(-) Please be seated
The Holy Spirit calls us together as the people of God.
P: Blessed be God, the eternal ☩ One-in-Three, who was, and is, and is to come.
C: Blessed be God forever and ever.
HH: During a season of busyness and in a culture that demands immediate response,
C: we pause and wait for your appearing.
HH: In the midst of anxiety, chaos, and fear,
C: we pause and trust that your hand is leading us.
HH: Uncertain about the future and weighed down with worries in the present,
C: we pause and know your presence fully.
HH: Come, O Christ, and set us free.
C: Come, Emmanuel, bring in your reign of justice and peace.
HH: We wait for a new heaven and a new earth,
C: where righteousness is at home.
HH: O God, eternal and unchanging, you are the source and center of all life. Help us to cease
our constant hurry and hustle, worry and anxiety, that we may rest in you. Teach us patience
and endurance as we wait for the appearing of Jesus Christ, our Emmanuel.
C: Amen.

FELLOWSHIP – DECEMBER 10TH–Lance & Reed Dye, Shauna Dye.
CHRISTMAS FOOD BASKETS-Collection starts December 4th! Please see the lists on the bulletin boards & in the newsletter.

“GO AND…” – Ready, Set, Go! In the Great Commission, Jesus calls us to GO. We are taking
those words to heart. We invite you to be part of this call to GO!
December-Be Present As we await and celebrate Christ’s birth, we remember that God is present and
shows up. The babe in the manger, God Incarnate, is God’s giR of deep love for us. We are invited to
pause, be s2ll, and be fully present in this holy season. Society calls us to a different place where busyness, spending, and rushing about are marks of success. God, in Christ, offers another way: Emmanuel –
God with us.
Questions to consider: What can I add to this season that would truly allow me to pause? What
tradition do you have that nurtures being present at this time of year? As you are on the GO, how
are you going to practice being present?
Prayer: Emmanuel, you are present with us. Help us be present with each other. Amen.
