Worship Helpers: Reader-Jody Mischnick, Lay Assistant– Maurine Roller

In Isaiah the people are advised to look to their spiritual ancestors as the rock from which they were
hewn. Jesus declares that the church will be built on the rock of Peter’s bold confession of faith. God’s
word of reconciliation and God’s mercy are keys to the church’s mission. Paul urges us to not be conformed to this world but to offer our bodies as a living sacrifice, using our individual gifts to build up
the body of Christ. From the table we go forth to offer our spiritual worship through word and deed.

-HYMN OF THE DAY The Church Song

Refrain: We are the church, the body of our Lord;                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     we are all God’s children. We have been restored.

1    The church is not a building where people go to pray;                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              it’s not made out of sticks and stones, it’s not made out of clay.  Refrain

2    You can go to worship but you cannot go to church;                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                you can’t find a building that’s alive no matter how you search.  Refrain

3   The church is not a business, a committee or a board;                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              it’s not a corporation for the business of the Lord.  Refrain

4  The church, it is the people living out their lives,                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       called, enlightened, sanctified for the work of Jesus Christ.  Refrain

SEPTEMBER– SERVE WITH NEIGHBORS
As Mr. Rogers asked us – “Who is your neighbor?” Love grounds us as we engage with our
neighbors living next door, the people in surrounding communities, and those living beyond our
own horizons. Accompaniment calls us to use our God-given gifts and talents as we collaborate,
learn from each other, and together walk in agape love.
Questions to consider:
Who is your neighbor? How do you know? What did you discover in walking with your neighbor?
As you GO with your neighbors, how do you describe your vocation?
Prayer: God of Accompaniment, you meet us where we are. Help us meet our neighbors wherever they might be and walk with them. Amen.
