Bulletin for GOOD FRIDAY-April 7th @ 7:00PM

Life and death stand side by side as we enter into Good Friday. In John’s passion account, Jesus reveals
the power and glory of God, even as he is put on trial and sentenced to death. Standing with the disciples at the foot of the cross, we pray for the whole world in the ancient bidding prayer, as Christ’s death
offers life to all. We gather in solemn devotion, but always with the promise that the tree around which
we assemble is indeed a tree of life. We depart silently, and we anticipate the culmination of Holy Week
in the joy of Easter morning.
(*) Please stand as you are able
(-) Please be seated

All gather in silence. No Announcements.
The assembly stands when the ministers stand.

*HYMN Lamb of God ELW 336
1 Your only Son, no sin to hide, but you have sent him from your side
To walk upon this guilty sod and to become the Lamb of God.

Refrain: O Lamb of God, sweet Lamb of God, I love the holy Lamb of God.
Oh, wash me in your precious blood, my Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God.

2 Your gift of love we crucified. We laughed and scorned him as he died.
The humble king we named a fraud and sacrificed the Lamb of God.

3 I was so lost, I should have died, but you have brought me to your side
To be led by your staff and rod and to be called a lamb of God.

L Almighty God, look with loving mercy on your human family, for whom our Lord Jesus
Christ was willing to be betrayed, to be given over to the hands of sinners, and to suffer
death on the cross; who now lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever
and ever.
C Amen.

L Finally, let us pray for all those things for which our Lord would have us ask.
C Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be
done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our
trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
forever and ever. Amen.

A large cross is carried in procession through the church and placed before the assembly. The
assembly stands and faces the cross as it is brought forward.
The following responses are repeated 3 times as the cross is processed.

CANTOR: Behold, the life-giving cross, on which was hung the Savior of |
the whole world.

C: Oh, come, let us worship him.

-HYMN Beneath the Cross of Jesus ELW 338

CANTOR: We adore you, O Christ, |and we bless you.

C: By your holy cross you have re-|deemed the world.

The strepitus is heard, a noise signifying the closing of Christ ‘s tomb.

During this time, worshipers may come to the large cross to make a sign of reverence. Reverencing the cross may include actions such as pausing before the cross, bowing, kneeling before
it for prayer, or touching it.
