Bulletin for the Third Sunday in Lent-I am he, the one speaking to you.-“Called by God”

It would be impossible to count the number of voices – both literal and metaphorical – that call to us everyday of our lives. Family and friends, Co-workers and neighbors, Digital media and print media (yes,
some still does exist!). Voices both present and past. On and on the list goes. Of all of the voices that
call to us on a daily basis, which ones do we listen to? Which do we say “no” to? Which ones are like a
pesky Jiminy Cricket sitting on our shoulders that we would silence if we could? And how do we discern what is the voice of God amid all of this? In the story of the Woman at the Well, we meet a woman
who literally hears the voice of Jesus and discovers a new call for her unfinished life. God promises that
Jesus does the same for us.

L: O come, let us sing to the Lord.
C: Let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!
L: While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
C: Let us come into God’s presence with thanksgiving.
L: We were reconciled to God through the death of his Son.
C: Let us make a joyful noise to God with songs of praise!
L: Having been reconciled, will we be saved by Jesus’ life.
C: O come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!

L Gracious God,
C We confess that we listen to the wrong voices and that we prevent others from hearing
your call. We define people by their empty water jugs, and we fail to recognize how you
are at work in surprising ways. Forgive us, claim us, and call us anew so that crossmarked and Spirit-sealed our lives are transformed for the sake of the Gospel.
Through Jesus Christ, Our Savior and Lord, Amen

L God who is rich in mercy, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love has come to us in
Jesus, who by his holy cross has redeemed the world. Buried with Christ by baptism into
death, your sins are forgiven in +Jesus’ name. Cross-marked and Spirit-sealed, you are
raised to new life. Almighty God strengthen you in faith to live each day renewed in God’s
call for your life.
C: Amen

L The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit
be with you all.
C And also with you.

*HYMN OF PRAISE Bless the Lord, O My Soul (sing 3 times) WOV 798

C Tune our hearts to listen to your voice, O God. And help us to discern which voices to
listen to in our daily lives. Meet us in our places of need and longing, And inspire us to
trust in your call upon our lives. In the name of +Jesus, Amen.

3 For you, Lord,|are a great God, and a great ruler a-

in the desert.
9 There your ancestors |tested me,they put me to the test, though they had |
seen my works.
10 Forty years I loathed that gener-|ation, saying,
‘The heart of this people goes astray; they do not |know my ways.’
11 Indeed I swore |in my anger, ‘They shall never come |
to my rest.’ ” R
